Whether you’re here for lindy hop, collegiate shag, or balboa, we’ve got the right track for you. Please read through each track description to see which mythical beast you are.
Our Centaur track is for those new to lindy hop and those wanting to improve their fundamentals. We recommend these classes for anyone who plans to attend the evening dances and/or attend Sunday workshops. Our instructors will work on building your vocabulary while focusing on good partner connection. You will learn about dancing to the music, simple stylings, and techniques to make the dance feel great. Our aim is to get you onto the social dance floor, feeling comfortable dancing full songs and with different partners!
To benefit from Intermediate classes you should be ready to push yourself. You’ve been dancing for a little while and are keen to work on some new ideas. The instructors will help you develop your technical skills further and get to the next level of leading and following. These classes will suit you if you are confident dancing the common 6 and 8-count figures and variations you typically see on the social dance floor (swingout, circles, tuck turns, sugar pushes, basic Charleston). Join an Intermediate class if you are ready to work on finesse, musicality and the tiny details that make a huge difference to the way the dances look and feel.
Be prepared to burst through the wall with dancing and immerse yourself in shag! Do you want to learn how to dance to those faster tempos? This is the track for you! Our instructors will work on expanding your dance vocabulary while focusing on good partner connection. You will learn about dancing to the music, simple stylings, and techniques to make those fast tempos fun. Our aim is to get you onto the social dance floor, feeling comfortable dancing full songs and with different partners!
Taster classes are an introduction to a style of movement or a piece of choreography, an amuse-bouche for your dancing. Since Blue Dome Jivin’ focuses on lindy hop and collegiate shag during most classes, we have asked our Taster teachers to share some of their favorite ways to boogie (but never woogie) outside of these two dances. Who knows, perhaps one of these dance appetizers will whet your appetite for a full course in the future!
